Ran across this old trick. Fiddling with the .41 Colt

I needed a “heel” bullet at .403” bore and shank of .386 to fit inside the case. Not easy to find. The factory solution prior to WWII was a deep hollow base .386 bullet that would upset 17 thousandths (hopefully) to fill the bore. I had a crazy idea and really wanted to shoot the 100 yr. old Colt.

I loaded up “blanks” and gently chambered some cast truncated 10mm bullets BACKWARDS! Shooting the revolver like a single shot. By golly it worked. They all hit without keyholing and shot about a 4-5” group off the bags at 30 yds. Velocity was about 800 fps for the 170 gr. bullets. It was tedious but fun, just to see if it would work.
