Crazy idea.

I understand from a mass production standpoint making this would not be worth it.

But... for a custom one off.

Don't see any Magnum Caliber top breaks. And I would like to have one.

How much work would it take or is it even be possible to make a top break in 454 Casull?

Can the frame be upgraded or would working from the ground up be the better option?

Could it take some inspiration looks from this anime as well.

It would work for 1 shot, in other words the 454 is HIGH

pressure it would blow the breakopen design into 100 little pieces at high velocity.

I want to see the video!!!

We had an early Taurus Tracker .454 that had blown

The core right out of the bullet as it transitioned into the bore through the forcing cone. A second round blew that out and “ringed” the bore. It shot a couple rounds cleaned then went all over the target. Cleaned it would start the process again. You couldn’t see it with your eyes but you could feel it with your fingers running along the outside. Down the bore from the back you could barely see the doughnut just ahead of the forcing cone. We sent the gun back to the guy we bought it from. It needed a new barrel put on.

I believe that it's possible . . .

. . . to design a "top break" revolver capable of handling the .454 cartridge. It assuredly wouldn't resemble the old ones we're familiar with, but it's "possible". Engineers with CAD design and modern materials are amazing. Might be ugly as sin, of course, and very nasty to fire, but still . . . ;-)

Sean is correct.

I've seen several guns hammered apart that were converted to that cartridge. Model 94 Winchester and Model 336 Marlin to name two.

No frame upgrade

So frame upgrade is out of the question.

Then again, what is needed and who can take on a top break magnum?

Even if it didn’t blow into micro particles

The grip geometry and design would make it fly completely out of your hands. Ideally over your head, at worse right into your forehead at high velocity. A bit of reality might be a useful interjection.

Let’s step outside and let go a round or three from a FA83 6” with full boogie loads!

I once “magnumized” a Lyman Plain pistol in .54 caliber shooting 1 oz. projectiles and rifle doses of 777. I found quickly I first had to full glass bed the barrel and breach, reinforce the wedge pin plates. That kept the wood intact and the barrel with the rest of it. The stick design was no where close to able to manage the recoil. It was not part of the design factor. I have the data somewhere but I never made it to triple digit charges. It was unmanageable!
