Took it to the Range as I wanted to get the sights set for the 125 gr. Gold Dot over 18.5 gr. of 2400. Shot it at 25 yards using a barrel rest and two hand hold.

With the rear sight screwed down all the way it hits just a bit high at 25 yards which is perfect for me. I put the black tape on the target so my old eyes could see the aiming point better. I held 6 o'clock on the bottom edge of the black.

The old gun is accurate enough ... the nut holding the grip needs help. Other loads I fired before setting the sights for the Gold Dot load.

I chose the Gold Dot load because I may try to take a deer with it later. The deer are small and the distances close where I will be. Not sure if I will or not, but I wanted to be ready in case.

I'm no D B Wesson but I think the .357 is very useful

I like the simplicity of the Flat Top and even the old model. The transfer bar pushed into position by the sprung pin on the cylinder pin, is a distraction to me. But I figure it's kept some goobers from shooting themselves. No Doubt.

I prefer the old guns

Simple .. clean ... if you screwed up and shot yourself because you never took time to learn to do something properly and safely it was your own fault.

More om 357s

I said that I had enough 357 magnum handguns. The truth is, once I got hooked on the 44 special new model flattop , I never looked back. Then one day a friend had an old model ruger 357 with the protective ears for sale in pretty clean condition and a 6 1/2” barrel. I never should have shot it. Sold. Then an ugly in every way 4 5/8” barrel 3 screw with the protected sight found it’s way home. I should not have stored them together, or at least should have checked the sexes because they have multiplied by 2, another of each of those length barrels but those are flattops.

I was going to get old ugly turned into something else but it shoots too nice. They all do.

Beautiful gun.

My oldest "letters" from May of 1956. I have several, most without the transfer bar. :-D :-D :-D

This one is 1958. Great guns!

. . . would be if I happened on such a "beater" for a good price that it would be more like restoring an old car and adding a bigger engine. :-D
