H&I die for the #450 machine, and I use that to lube and crimp checks. But for the sizing I much prefer the LEE .510" push through as an additional step. You could easily get by tumble lubing and the Lee sizer only. Works peachy. Also bake paint coating and the LEE die.
My revolver throats are pretty snug so the .510" keeps me from having any chambering issues, ever. Some guys may have more experience. I've used the .510" for the Linebaughs, .50 AK and .50-95 WCF. Bullets ranging from 300 to 500 gr. All to good effect.
Same here size to .510 I also

Bought a .510 taper crimp die from Gary. Those throats are tight indeed and the roll crimp was giving me fits. No mater how little a roll crimp it stopped the cartridge from fully seating. Sooooo.... chamfer the case mouth, no belling and taper crimp. Dats what works for me.ymmv
WB.. do you size many lead projos?

I retired my 450 probably 8 years ago and invested in a Star. One of the best investments I ever made.
My distain for the Lyman 450 is legendary.

I have made up a list of new cuss words just to sling at it exclusively. Until I FINALLY get it adjusted correctly. Then it works like a charm. I usually really get goo'd up first. I love it when it pulls off the gas checks and irons them to the top of the ejector piston. And when I forget to de-pressurize it and come back to witness the lubricated carnage.
It's a challenge! Personal quest!
If I ever came into a good Star kit at a super bargain I might jump in. I'm set on the Lyman/RCBS kit, sizers, nose plugs etc. I have a rare .352" sizer and even a #303 nose plug for that pointy Lyman .44 bullet! Too easy to get parts cheap.
I'm a bit skeptical about plugging the Star holes with BB's. Don't let Gary see this post, I'm a little worried about his blood pressure... "Star" is right up there with Headspace and barrel twist! LOL

matter where I put those little #8 shot it still covers the nose with lube. I even filled all the holes up and it still puts lube all over the nose of the bullet. I have run the length of sizing up and down and no change. I have the full machine with several sizing dies. I set the little video on a laptop next to the damn thing and go exactly as they do and get lube all over the nose, no matter what. I order the sizer dies by the bullet I am sizing so they should set the dies to the right setting instead of having to watch the little video every time you touch the damn thing. It is now residing under my bench and I hope the mice have eaten it.
Poor machine

I can set up a star to run any configuration in less than 5 minutes. If you had someone that could show you In person it's really not as complicated as it's made out to be.

I think the base of the bullet goes first

IIRC. If you go nose first, some lube will leak out as you start to size the bullet. It has been a while since I used mine.
