I have a RPM-XL in .356 Win. which is actually a rimmed .358 Win. I actually use .358 Win. reloading dies for it and .444 Marlin brass resized and trimmed. I also have a .358 cal. Contender barrel for the same "untrimmed" form but end up shooting the trimmed version out of it.
In both cases I usually get a little less in my 14 and 15" barrels than you quoted for your carbines. Maybe 100-150 fps less depending on the bullet. Heavier ones are more efficient from short barrels. But it is using close to DOUBLE the powder to gain little if any gain over the new more efficient case.
Have any of you priced .444 brass lately?! The .30-30 case is a fantastic platform.
