I see the AR platform as the "Contender" of the semi-auto world. Just the right size, you can make it into a carbine, rifle, pistol. Then they needed one bigger (Encore?) so the AR10 was born. Now things have gotten totally out of hand! .45, .50, and even .50 BMG on the platform.

How practical or tactical it all is seems more of a marketing poly. I see through all that. BUT if you appeal to my "fun" sense you very well may hook me. Then again, I'm weird. I lament the fact I can't easily turn off the gas port and it chunks my beloved brass into the tall grass. But still I have fun in a rig that I can put together (no body actually "builds" one, really) an assemblage of parts that can place 5 bullets into a 1-inch group at 100 yds. I'm not even a very good shot! It still amazes me, and entices me back for more.
