Reeder Custom Guns - Range Report

Most of you guys are big pistol shooter to the extreme. I am an occational hunter with one. I prefer a rifle to the pistol accept when I hunt the perfect place for one in close quarters brush or even stalking in the thickets. I have to practice a lot to stay half way proficient. Just have not got the nack I guess. Wish I did.

But with a rifle and peep sights or a scope is different. I took my model 39a Golden with me to shoot when sighting in other folks guns for them for deer season.

Five shots at 25 yards with front sight at the bottom of the triangle. Then 5 shots at 50 yards covering the triangle. What a sweet pea she is.

the big squirrels I used to hunt in Tennessee. I always enjoyed hunting in a misty rain, where when the squirrels moved they caused a lot of rain to fall making noise. Good memories. Thanks for that John.

WITH A .22 RIFLE ON SQUIRRELS AND RABBITS?

switched to one of my Dads 22 rifles, the Sears J.C. Higgins (High Standard) and pretty much stayed that way for squirrels and rabbits. We had beagles and when they jumped a rabbit the rabbit always ran in a circle and if we stayed still he would come hopping back behind us in a few minutes and that would give me a shot at him with the 22. I didn't always connect but there were times when the dogs ran the rabbit around 2 or 3 times giving me another shot.

have or use firearms even though I took hunter education. Lets just say not the best home environment. Not to say I did not use firearms. I would tell my mom I was going trout fishing with my best friend. I would leave my gear next to the railroad tracks and my buddy would meet me and we would hunt pheasant, dove, quail or grouse. Never owned a gun until in the service. My first two were bought on the same day. They were a Ruger MK II .22 from a buddy and a brand new Ruger M77 7mm mag. with a 12 lbs trigger. I learned to shoot it very well which made all others seem easy. Three months later my first Marlin 336. I now have a severe case of Marlinitis.

around. I hunted here in the states with my 20 gauge and my Dad'd 22 J.C. Higgins. Then we went overseas so not much shooting over there. A little during the summer but not much. Then back to the states and then some more traveling. Finally my Dad retired in '61 and we settled down and I got to do a lot of hunting. But it wasn't so bad. I spent a lot of time with my Dad fishing in Italy and Germany which I really enjoyed. Then hunting with him when we got back stateside.

Made in 1957. I truly lament selling it for some other project. That was back when I had very little money and traded my deer rifle for a handgun then a muzzle loader then a .22 and back to a deer rifle, according to season. But I always traded UP! Finally I began splitting off and running two guns at at time, then three. The rest is history.

Alas the pistol grip Marlins are superb handling and shooting guns. But just not as sexy to the eyes as a straight stock lever gun to me. The Cowboy series is almost too much with both straight stock and octagon barrels.

I once had a consignment M1888 20" in .38 WCF and octagon. The rare top ejecting Marlin! The guy said he wanted $1000.00 for it and I could keep anything I got more! I sold it for $1500 to a soldier in Iraq! Shipped it to his brother here in the states. We BOTH were happy. The original owner got pissy with me about our arrangement. Dusted my sandals off, went on.
