A pole question what is your favorite Ruger #1/#3 and what calibers. Thinking about starting a collection. I already ave 2 #3's one in 30 Army and one in 45/70 and I have #1 parts gun in 405 Win.

Thanks

her #1 in 30-06 in Africa

and her new one in 275 Rigby, also in Africa.

Kase has used a 1-S #1 in 45-70 for a Kudu and another #1 in 378 Weatherby for various plains game animals like Common Reedbuck, Impala and Blue Wildebeest.

And a #1 in 416 Rigby in Africa for Eland and another Kudu.

In all my trips to Africa I have never used a rifle. The only time I can remember using a rifle was a #1-S in 45-70 up on the Arctic Circle for Caribou. That #1 eventually became a 450 GNR. I also used a Winchester 94 in 32 WCF in Canada on a bear hunt.

There were several rifles in our tidy little camp up on the Arctic Circle.

I have some great Rugers.
243, 300 weatherby mag,45-70 and a 416 Rigby. They're all super.The 416 Rigby shoots right through an engine block.

if you weren't such a pussy you could use it in Africa

Years ago. I saw one other like it with an octagonal barrel. I will always have this rifle. Has steel checkered Neidner buttplate, color cases receiver, lever and scope rings and of course great wood.

You are one lucky man, did you get the octagonal one too?

The variants confuse me. I was thnkng a 1V but see they come in a ribbed version and others with scope bases drilled in the barrel (I think). The no front sight talks to me more than a conventional one, not g my lack of understanding of the variants. Anyway for caliber, a 375 Flanged Magnum sounds good & not the short one either. Gary, any reamers for this one handy?

I have one 375 Flanged magnum reamer we used for a

Ruger #1 for a friend a few years back. Not sure which version it is. I will have to look and see.

My dream #1 would be one of the Tropical models
