Hey Gary, what 1911 10mm mags do you use?

Mec-Gar seems to be the most reasonably priced and then prices jump 2X to boutique styles. Are they worth it?
it is all according to what the gun likes. You really

need to try one or two brands so see. Mec Gar is good. The old Para magazines are good but hard to find now that Remington owns them. The Wilson mags are good although pricey. Every gun is different. I like the mags with the rounded follower. The ones with the flat followers don't do well in my 10mms.
I guess I'm trading Doug out of his Javelina AMT

It shoots the factory mag fine with the PPV ammo he had. AMT's (this is a later IAI version) are rough as a cobb looking. They have lots of nice features, sort of a cobby stainless Gold Cup actually.

It has potential and I think that is what attracts it to me. I can make it so much better just by polishing and smoothing. The recoil rod is very interesting and I can't tell if it is some aftermarket or factory. Solid rod with a rubber o-ring and this washer special fitted to sandwich the o-ring in the ending recoil to soften the frame racking.

The barrel muzzle is very slightly belled and closely mated to a solid bushing. Roman declares it very, very accurate and shootable. I'll polish and smooth it out, shoot it some.

Mine is the long barreled version, 7" I think

All the Javelinas I have seen were marked IAI. I have never seen one marked AMT. I just went in and polished everything internally including the feed ramp. It works perfectly fine now. I got mine from one of the Misfits a while back.
Those 7" ers command a sizeable premium

I like the long sight radius for shooting. The longer barrel likely adds enough extra too, with the right powders. I found an old Bianchi shoulder holster for a 6" S&W N-frame holds the old 1911 pretty well using the extra strap just in case. It would be perfect for a long slide. Old stuff finds a new use.
Hey Gary, didnt you say you might have 7'' slides for 1911's

My AMT Longslide 45. I have at least 70,000 rounds thru it when i was heavy into combat shooting. A lot of the parts are custom as they weren't available back then in 1979 and thru 1985.Made by my gunsmith at the time, Gary Case in Tennessee.

I could see it even in a dimly lit room in the evening. It outperforms my other fiber optic sights by at least 50%. Outside all are OK but I really noticed that particular brand's performance.
Thank-you Gary

I like 200 gr. mainly. I have shot cast in other platforms and plan on trying some tricks to see if I can get this to run some. May have to powder coat them to slick up the feeding. It basically "plastic jackets" the cast bullets. Some platforms naked cast bullets can be a little grabby and hang up feeding.
The 1911 usually takes a little fiddling with exotic ammo. I'd not want to hammer it too much either. Not without a bit more specialized recoil buffer system. But then again I'm not shooting thousands of hot rounds, just working up hunting loads.
Here is a pair for sale on GB

Factory mag looks to be MecGar.

It does have a flat follower like a .45 ACP military mag. The Wilson looks really nice, well made, holds 9 and sports a poly follower. For $35 rather than the MecGar $15. I might try one.
