mind set to be able to sell powders. With so many young shooters brain washed by the superior 6.5 Creedmore and it's supposed advantage over all other cartridges, now Winchester has come out with a new powder using the 6.5 in it's name to help sell it. The press release is shown below...

Winchester Smokeless Propellants, a brand licensed by the Hodgdon Powder Company, is pleased to announce the release of Winchester StaBALL 6.5, the world’s first temperature-insensitive BALL® Powder, stable in extreme-hot or -cold conditions.

“Precision rifle shooters are a demanding lot,” says Ron Reiber, Hodgdon chief ballistician. “We identified a market need for a high-performing powder that metered precisely to be loaded on a progressive press, featured temperature insensitivity and a copper fouling elimination agent. Our testing revealed handloaders can load this powder much faster than traditional extruded powders on a single-stage press, which will result in less time loading and more time shooting. This powder is a game changer.”

In my experience with precision shooters they have their own special powders that work in their long range guns. These guys are professionals. The younger shooters that believe all the BS about the 6.5 Creedmore are not, in most cases, reloaders. So why is Winchester relying on the 6.5 shooters to run out and change everything they are doing to grab this new powder just because it has 6.5 in it's name? It seems to be cheap sensationalism to get the long range shooters attention, rather than let the powder speak for itself and get a good reputation as one of the leading powders.

Excuse my having very little patience with all the non-ending BS about the 6.5 Creedmore being "the best cartridge in over 100 years" and "shooting flat out to 800 yards" and "the streamlines of the bullet let it not be influenced by wind drift" and on and on, it is hard to keep an open mind. So if you like the 6.5 Creedmore, then I am all for you.
