mind set to be able to sell powders. With so many young shooters brain washed by the superior 6.5 Creedmore and it's supposed advantage over all other cartridges, now Winchester has come out with a new powder using the 6.5 in it's name to help sell it. The press release is shown below...

This powder is a game changer.”

In my experience with precision shooters they have their own special powders that work in their long range guns. These guys are professionals. The younger shooters that believe all the BS about the 6.5 Creedmore are not, in most cases, reloaders. So why is Winchester relying on the 6.5 shooters to run out and change everything they are doing to grab this new powder just because it has 6.5 in it's name? It seems to be cheap sensationalism to get the long range shooters attention, rather than let the powder speak for itself and get a good reputation as one of the leading powders.

Excuse my having very little patience with all the non-ending BS about the 6.5 Creedmore being "the best cartridge in over 100 years" and "shooting flat out to 800 yards" and "the streamlines of the bullet let it not be influenced by wind drift" and on and on, it is hard to keep an open mind. So if you like the 6.5 Creedmore, then I am all for you.

old up right piano with 13 lbs of tanirite in a pvc pipe at 100 yds , we were not far enough away. Keys felt hammers raining down, probably wouldn't have be so big of a boom but we used a 6.5 Creed more

We were only 80 yards away and the blast wave was pretty strong. Pieces of the car landed 200 yards away. Fortunately none of them came at us.

My first Encore Pistol Barrel was a 6.5x55 in 1997. Also have a Ruger #1RSI so chambered.

I do have a 6.5 Creedmoor in the Ruger #1 as well. Others include the 6.5 Grendel and 6.5x54 MS.

problem is with the young shooter's mind set. They have been programmed by some gun writers to believe that the Creedmore in the best cartridge ever designed. The latest I heard over in our gun shop from a young man was that the design of the bullet made in impervious to any wind. That is had zero wind drift. And another was it is flat shooting out to 800 yards, another was it is the perfect bull elk round, and so on. And they all read these things written by the so called gun writers that write for some of the on line columns. This BS misinformation is what gets me hot under the collar. An when I tell them that the new Hornady cartridge, the 6.5 PRC beats the Creedmore by several hundred FPS they get all red in the face and start with the line that it is misinformation meant to put the Creedmore down. They have been so indoctrinated to believing all the Creedmore BS they just can't handle any information to the contrary. It is like the young people voting for Bernie Sanders. Total brain washing.

I find it on par with the 260 Remington and Handloaded 6.5x54 MS. All are fine cartridges in their own way.

Also, with young folks being easily persuaded.

My favorite has always been the 6.5x55. It started with a $70 Swedish Mauser in 1983. With modern pressure handloads, it's still hard to beat.

It was a 15" Encore handgun with no brake and a 2x-7X Burris scope. I loaded it with Nosler 130 gr. Accu-bonds at around 2500 fps and I was able to squeak another hundred fps out of my 6.5-284 with the same bullet. He took a nice Trophy Sika with it at something over 100 yds., which I recorded. He hit it a little too high and too far back. That odd zone above the heart and lungs, below the spine, that seemingly has little effect on an animal initally. The bane of many a hunter.

It was sick though and we were able to do follow up shots, I think (4) hits total. Had the placement been better it would have been a totally different outcome. I left my 6.5 behind to use the 200 gr. .338 GNR at the same speed for my Blackbuck, Doug did too.

We had one other 6.5 experience with a 100 gr. Remington Core-Lockt running right at 2500 fps. It blew up on a Ram's shoulder and did not even penetrate, just broke the bone. There is some hunters that just seem to be jinxed with the 6.5 in the field. I know there is not much difference at all between it and a .257, .277, or .284. My efforts with the 7mm just seem more divinely blessed! Hats off to all .264 zealots, the world would be less interesting without you all.

My personal favorites in the rifle calibers have been

the .257 and the 284 calibers. This is in the under 30 caliber category. No rhyme or reason for this. I have just had more luck with them in the past than other "smaller" calibers.
In the 30 caliber and above my likes have been many. I have used the 30 GNR,310 GNR, 338 GNR,350 GNR, 378 GNR, 41 GNR, 410 GNR, 416 GNR, 429 GNR, 450 GNR, 475 GNR, and 510 GNR successfully in Africa, Australia and New Zealand so I can't leave them out. My favorite among them for a Contender or Encore have been the 310 GNR and 450 GNR that I used on last years African safari. My 338 GNR and 378 GNR have been my "go to" rifle type caliber cartridges thru the years.

I have a few of my calibers that I haven't used extensively that I should, but there are only a few opportunities to do so. Maybe good Lord willing I will have the time to use some of them. These are the new Falcons, a couple of the Raptors and some of the older cartridges that some of you have used successfully thru the years. Thank goodness I have you guys to do a lot of my load testing and field testing on game, or they would never be used.

Using a bullet mold my Dad made me for it (45 gr. flat nose) my top handloads do 1100 fps. Ruins the cartridge though. There is no web left in the primer pocket. But they do hit hard for a 6.5 mm ...

Mine has been literally a boot gun for years in Florida and out here too. It is a Budischowsky 25 auto. It is not as classy as Jim's with the ivory grips and fancy nickle plating but it works. And is double action too. It shoots flat out to 17 feet and is somewhat wind resistant out to maybe 20 yards on a calm day.
