I've told my .45 Colt Vaquero story
Friday, October 25, 2019, 07:06

I had been testing it at a measured 25 yds. at an indoor range, about 3" groups off the bench. Then suddenly they went to more like 6". I was loading a second cylinder full when I remembered I did not have any SWC .45 Colt ammo, which was what I was loading into the gun. Looking at the .45 Colt empties I read the headstamp more closely. I had shot a cylinder full of .44-40 and all were on paper. The empties were expanded to .45 Colt dimensions.

As I mentioned and you can see in my photo, my custom .43-40 ammo often has no neck at all, just a gentile sloping taper. At a glance it can be hard to tell. The bigger rims are a subtle give away.
