Reading way too much about the old cartridges has probably pointed me in the wrong direction a few times, including today.
Having always read that the 44-40 held more powder than the 44 Magnum. Maybe and probably true in the past.
Before upping the ante on the 44-40s performance, I decided it best to check.
Comparing R-P Brand 44 Magnum and Starline 44-40 brass resulted in zero difference. The most I could measure was 2/10 grain more for the 44-40.
Even though the 44-40 is a tad longer than the 44 Magnum, the web is thicker on the Starline 44-40.
This makes loading data easy, but levels the playing field. The fun begins...
