I've shot a 338 win quite a bit I did all the handloading for a guy and his wife when they went to Africa and Alaska and then he went to Russia. She had a Sako 338 and I loved it got to shoot a 416 Rigby quite a bit that was fun too
Never had an issue with the .338 but the .416

you kind of need a purpose, to shoot it. It's lot more than the .375 H&H to me. A brake helps any of them a LOT.
The .338 GNR is almost a rimmed .338-06 as far as capacity. You can only burn so much in a handgun length tube. Some of us guys used to argue over the 8mm GNR vs the .338 GNR. One runs from 150-220 gr. and the other 180-270 gr. In truth it's just what you want. The 8mm bullets expand easier on thinner skinned critters like deer. The .378 GNR is in a heavier range of projectiles, perhaps 220 gr. - 300 gr. I do have a 350 gr. RNGC .379" mould that works fine too.
Just depends on where you are thinking.
BIG hogs..my purpose for shooting a 505 GIBBS..LOL
