Reeder Custom Guns - Sometimes when it's too much to bear

I put it away only to re-discover it at a later, more calm, date. These are $2 apiece Lapua .220 Russian Benchrest brass. Me thinks by-golly I'm gonna blow them back out! Hold my glass of sweet tea... although I do not think they'll ever be the same.

I have some loaded up and decided once to "unload" them with an inertia puller. I found the definition of "neck tension" It far, far, beats any crimp you can conjure. I figure not many loaders encounter the same "challenges" that I seem to find.

it's just for the fun of it. I'm going to have some of the fanciest .401 Winchester Self-loading hulls that have ever been. To shoot, and sling into the tall grass never to be found again! No matter how hard I look.

I've started adding them to all my die sets.

I was trying to make 6mm PPC from .220 Russian. Not a difficult task at all. Open up a .22 to .243. Well, you see some of the unique challenges. This benchrest brass is sort of raw, special stuff, made to neck turn to the closest 1/2 thousandth etc. I noted the top half of the cases were a nice blue hue.

I did load many cases but had about 15% failures on some level. I was pulling my hair out. Those telescopes were simple attempts to neck up with an elliptical expander ball. I still do not know why other than too soft shoulders. I've necked up a .22 to .416 just this week! But sometimes the bear gets you!

crumpled pieces of brass away!!! Life is way too short to worry and cry about a couple of pieces of brass. Holy shitface Batman, you will survive this calamity. Throw those things in the trash and go on to the next hurdle.

that have been crumpled, cracked, or otherwise damaged. You been loading long enough to have a nice collection. Make sure none are primed or loaded and go sell them to the scrap yard. Buy some more primers or powder or, if you messed up enough of them, a new gun.

bent, cracked, thrown against the wall and otherwise chucked in the trash literally thousands of pieces of brass. In developing 70 new wildcat cartridges, destroying brass is all part of it. A 55 gallon drum probably wouldn't hold the brass I have thrown away and I have yet to lose any sleep over it.

it's Misfititis. I'll do that AFTER I successfully tinker with them. It's like that dude on the Dirty Harry movie "Hey Mista, I got's to know...." - click. LOL

Scotty,
Prime them,
Get some powder somewhere between AA-1680 and H-335.
Fill it up to the neck and top off with a hunk of cotton ball.
Fire them and voila, you got a 6 PPC.

You can also fire them as 220 russian with cheap bullets and they will form about 98%.

Once fireformed, they are easy to work with.
