Reeder Custom Guns - coincidences do happen

A couple of weeks ago we got a 38-44 HD in in an estate sale. We sold that this past Saturday. Today a gentleman walks in with a 38-44 Outdoorsman. How many of those have you seen before. In my case maybe 1. I thought he wanted to sell it but instead we are going to chop it up, sorta. we are going to build him a new barrel in 44 Special and rechamber the cylinder to 44 Special and do some other cosmetic changes to it. Kind of a shame, but it will be nice when we get thru with it.

The hammer is neat. The old owner welded a wide thumbpiece to the standard hammer spur.

want the gun in 38 special and doesn't want to sell or trade it, so why not give him his very own classic 44 special, and give him a top of the line custom S&W. If we make it special he will care a lot more for it than he does a heavier than necessary 38 special.

they would not be worth much anyway. The Customer gets what he wants, GNR makes enough to pay the light bill for a month, and two gunnies are happy. I've done about as much.

I made the mistake of shooting my Ruger SBH in 10.5" stainless before I had it turned into a .401 GNR custom. The groups it shot still haunt me a little. But I'm over it.

Ditto my well worn 4-digit .30 Carbine BH that is now the most special .300 GNR, .327 there is.

I think my 8-shot .255 Banshee was once a .44 Bisley. I could go on but the infamy...

For all you “collectors” who have a 38/44... yours is now “more rare”.

Not many guys want a 3-1/2 lb., foot long, .38 special anyway. Fine for target work, pleasure shooting, walking a beat. If you barred us old coots at the door it would languish in a gunshop for an eternity.
