Good hunt and good friends.

This past Sunday I went to upstate NY near Watertown. Myself and three friends went on a two day Canada goose hunt. We had a great time during the hunt and after.

I have never been on a guided waterfowl hunt and I will state it was fun. The toughest part was sitting or I should say lying down in the coffin blinds. They take some getting used to and believe me you must wear a set of waders. They are kind of wet and muddy.

We set up decoys and the blinds in the dark. Hunting started right around 730 AM or so. It appears that all of the action is more or less done by 11 AM.

The guide was calling and using a flag type of decoy to attract the flocks. Often they flew high and around us only to take off for other places. There was a heavy rain and apparently they fed before that thus not too motivated to land in the cornfield we set up in.

The tough part of the hunt is lying down in the blind. You lie on your back and your head rests on a bar. You have your shotgun on your belly with the barrel between your legs. The doors of the blind are on top of you. When the guide says shoot, you more or less do a sit up with gun ready and the doors spring open and you pick a bird. Needless to say it looks easier said than done. I did get a bird on day one and my two birds on day two. So I can't complain. It was a fun hunt and we had a great time.
