There's not a lot of difference between the .41 .. .44 .. and .45 ... and on the working end the .41 and .44 are almost identical.

anymore I don't care for the recoil of the big ones .. or the hot ones like the 454 ... or sadly, even the 300 gr. .45 Colts. They hurt my hands ...

would cry like a little girl if I had to shoot my 510 GNR today. At the HHC I shot my 41 GNR in the G-2 twice to check the sights and one for the buffalo and I damn near cried just from that.

small article in the long gone North America Hunt Club that showed a similar photo except there were unexpanded rifle bullets alongside and he wrote how the rifle bullets must open up the same diameters as the handgun bullets for them to work while the handgun come in a killing size right from the box....

it starts out as big as you are trying to get that 38/357 or 9mm to expand to ...

at all. Most of my hunting is with silhouette bullets from Hornady or Sierra. They don't expand at all. I like to go for a spinal shot which drops them like a rock. Even if I pull my shot a bit the shock to the spine normally puts them down long enough to take a second shot.

They have enough lead exposed to make them legal and not an FMJ.

The silhouette bullets are not good for small game like whitetail deer and such. For them I favor the Sierra JHC. They do the job with medium expansion.

For dangerous game I like the Hornady DGS and DGX bullets.

I used to use a lot of hard cast gas check bullets but after failures to put even small game like deer down immediately, I have gone back to the bullets that have proven themselves for me like the Sierra jacketed hollow cavity (JHC) and the silhouette bullets. And like John says the absolute main thing is shot placement. As far as my choice in bullets I am not saying nor even suggesting you do the same thing. This is just what works for me.

guys feel the need to do the used car salesman handshake and crush while twisting the hand. One guy shook my hand a couple of weeks ago and even noodle heard it crack 10 feet away. That one hurt all day. I guess it could be worse. We could be in San Francisco and the guys would want a kiss or at the least a pat on the butt.

Than caliber selection between 41 thru 45 calibers. Guess we all have our favorites, but I won't waste my time arguing which one is best.

Some argue light or heavy bullets, jacketed or cast, brand of bullets, etc. I just prefer to spend my time enjoying the guns.

I like all of them. And I have used all of them on game and found that IF I put the bullet in the right place, they all work!

weight pushes. This is with cast not JHP. I do think that at .45 and certainly up from there are big differences. My sons .500 GNR just makes the others look piddlely. Thanxs for the pixs.

And I doubt any animal could tell much difference all components being equal. I've just never had the time to waste on that petty bs.

I really enjoy all the different posts. Jim really likes the 41 Magnum, Gary the 41 GNR, JT the 44 Special and so on.

WB and I are the crazy ones of the bunch. But, really get a kick out of Scottys experiments.

I'm just a lost cause born 100 years too late. Building most of my customs in hyphenated semi obsolete cartridges that most consider useless.

Find the diversity quite interesting on the forum.

I read, listen, experiment and learn. I love the hyphenated all so but they are all lever actions. The .357 Maxi is no slouch either. But my penetration/speed tests among the most popular calibers the .41 magnum is king with slightly above average weight bullets across the board with a wide meplat.

Gary's 41 GNR is the cats meow. I have a carbine just waiting to be converted.
