Phil Sharpe had data in his manual originally published in 1937 (I think).

I still cautiously use my copies regularly. Powders have changed formulas, so extra care is used.

These cartridges respond to modern loads just as well as the old 45 Colt and 45-70.

In a strong gun the old 38-40 still outperforms the 40 S&W, 10mm, 10mm Magnum and 401 PowerMag.
