A lot of people never get to spend time in the back country

where life is closer to the earth. A guy I know through the internet posted some photos of one of his incidents at his "office".

They were rounding up cattle .. a week long job of digging them out of the hills. Bears were causing some problems so he packed his 1895 Browning .30-06 ..

One morning while chasing some cows he got down in a bog. When he got out and climbed off the horse to check things, the knot-head rolled ... which is sorta SOP for horses. It was hard on the rifle.

He was lucky and had some 2-part epoxy so he did a back-country repair job.

After letting it cure he put it back together and fired a group at 75 yards. Everything held and the sights had not changed.

He said he will probably keep it the way it is. A nice memento.

At least it still shoots good.

What type of holster did you use when you went for any distance?

For the 7 1/2" guns I usually wore a shoulder holster.

Much of the time I wore a 4 3/4" and used a holster similar to what John Wayne carried...
