38-40 w/ Jacketed Bullets...
With the RCBS Uniflow still loaded with 2400 Powder, I decided to try it first.
Both the Hornady and Sierra Bullets were of the 210 variety as previously posted.
I got the Sierra up to 1800+ fps. Going 1/2 grn higher caused one case to have a slight sticking problem. It was so light that I questioned if it stuck at all. Either way, I dropped back down and encountered no more issues.
The Hornadys were a bit more forgiving. They took the extra 1/2 grn and averaged 1847 fps.
Groups stayed around .75" at 75 yards. This translates into 1" at 100 yards in theory. Couldn't ask for more.
I believe H110 and definitely Lil Gun Powder will reach higher velocity. But, this works for me and doubt the bullets could stand up to more anyways. I also doubt I could get the loading density where I needed it while keeping pressures moderate.
This easily bests my Henry 41 Magnum by 50-75 fps with the same weight bullet. In fact, muzzle energy just about on par with my 44 Magnum Ruger #1. Being fair, both of those have 3" less barrel.
I've lost count how many times these cases have been loaded. A dozen times for sure, probably more.
