sighting in from the HHC. I sent the Leupold scope back to the factory and they checked it out from end to end. Ran a collimator on it and found no errors in parallax or sight capability. They did find that the LOS was off all the way to the left and down to the bottom. Their suggestion is to remount the scope and use a fixed bench mount and place the target at 25 yards and be sure that I am on paper using the factory setting first before moving the target out to 100 yards. (Sound familiar?) I will try that in a week or so. I am still sore from the heart catheterization that I went through Two Wed ago. Seems like I have two 50% blockages and one 100% blockage that has had arteries grow up around it to supply blood to my heart! The doctor said it was very unusual for that to happen as it takes a while for the arteries to grow. NO stents as the blockages were insufficient to require them. The WONDERFUL government run TRICARE FOR LIFE system of the DOD refuses to allow me to have the drug that I need to keep my arteries clear...... I hate the VA and TRICARE. BOTH SUCK! I hope anyone else on here that is retired military has better luck that I have had. Anyway, I will try sighting in the 45-70 again and see how it does. If I can't get it to sight in with 405 grain bullets I may go to a lighter round like 300 grains or so. The other possibility is to put the scope on my CZ550 in .375 H&H Mag and see if it will sight in on that platform.

If you can't get it on the paper at 15, then there is a problem somewhere. Never start out at longer than 25 on a new scope or a gun that has only been bore sighted. When we sight in a gun for customers we start at 15, usually one shot, then to 25 and we can sight the gun in for 100 yards from 25 by having the point of impact about 1 to 2 inches or so low at 25 (all according to the caliber).

the Trailboss loads are fun and don't recoil much. The 300 gr. as well as the 405 gr. seem to work well. I find teh gas check bullets seem to be more accurate and worth the extra trouble and expense no more than you shoot a big gun like that.

Do the old "slip the bolt out" trick to "bore" sight it and it will be on paper, sure thing.

405 gr? I tried the bore sight and scope sight thing at the HHC on the 45-70 and it just would not work. It was ok on the 44 mag marlin but when I decided that I would have Gary do an action job etc. on the 44 mag, I also decided to move the scope to the 45-70. Shot way to many rounds trying to zero it. Finally gave up and just used the iron sights to kill a hog. One shot right behind the ear and bang flop. Now that I know the scope is ok, I am going to try and sight in again. I will do as Gary suggested and go from there. I do have a bunch of brass to reload now and just bought another box of ammo. .458 405 grain flat nosed bullets are hard to find! If I could find some really hard cast GC's bullets already lubed and ready to load that would be perfect. If not, I may have to learn how to cast my own and that would entail finding a mold, handles, casting mixtures and lubing etc. I can see that costing way more than I can afford to spend right now. Soooo, a couple of boxes of the right bullets and I will be good to go. Just gotta find them.

No it is called Repatha or Praulent.
