Reeder Custom Guns - 38-40 Bullets, Following JT's advice on sizing down...

The sized down 41 Magnum bullets won't chamber in Gary's tight chambers. This makes sense since it is a custom chamber and shoots so well.

So, I'll order Lee Sizers from their Custom Shop in .404" and .400". This will size them down in two increments and will be able to final size them .401" or .400".

Gary has built me two 38-40s and working on the third now. A fourth 38-40 Reeder is planned on a Super Redhawk Frame.

So, the need for bullets isn't going away...

on my OM .38-40 conversion. I didn't want to have to mess with things too much so that simplifies things for me. I typically size my cast bullets 0.401", which I shoot a bunch of them. The Herter's .401 seems to shoot them well also.

Lots of 10mm size late guns run really tight throats for those 0.399" bullets I guess. I'll have to re-check my 10mm GP100 conversion, it's been too long. Then again my 1920's .38-40 New Service had a real tight throat and then a loose bored barrel! I fixed that too and it fell together.

So I won't change anything. I have multiple 40 caliber guns, so extra dies will allow me tailor make bullets for any of them.

I planned to shoot home brewed cast bullets. It shoots lots better than I can and it only seemed to help my situation. It shot jacketed perfect but was tight on my reloads. It was the chamber throats.

Much else. They have just enough give to seat firmly.

Of course, the jacketed bullets have no give. Think I'll have better quality bullets sizing down in two steps anyways.

This gun shoots one hole quarter sized groups at 25 yards
