Reeder Custom Guns - I know GNR has been running 10mm since day one.

I bet Kase was chasing hogs with one when it first came out, as a pre-teen. The unit I am toying with has a full length recoil spring guide rod and super stiff spring, with a bumper set up. My question is how necessary is that full length guide rod? Wilson makes a flat spring set up kit special with normal plug for the 10. It sure would be nicer to take apart with a more typical spring plug and short guide.

Is there really trouble with spring binding on a 10? I'm not really into hot rodding the 1911 10mm, domestic factory level loads.

If you think 10mm is a hot rod, wait till you shot max loads in 40 Super. I waxed a hog at HHC with mine.

10mm 180 gr at 1300 fps. 40 super 200gr at 1400 fps.

on the .45 Super case, a little longer body I think too. The company that invented it I thought went under. I can't remember if it headspaces on the shoulder or case mouth. That is a big deal.

I really roughed up my 1911 platforms with the .400 Corbon. It was much easier just to go out and buy a 10mm. But I had some fun.

I would be very interested in your long slide hog hunter in 40 Super My hunting partner had a converted Glock at the hog blasting this year and that super was awesome!

back in the early to mid 80s. We had the Bren Tens and the S&W 1006 pistols. Kase shot a big hog at the Hot & Nasty that you and Doug were on too. he used the first 10mm Long Slide that we built on that hog. I am not familiar with the 40 Super that Alcorn mentioned below but I would bet the 10mm will hold it's own with it.

a couple of months ago I now carry FMJ in all my semi autos. No more JHPs at all. Don't trust or believe in them anymore.

for hogs. There were some guys bowhunting in the group too. They carried their "truck guns" that were 9mm and .40 cal with JHP ammo. The .40's would not penetrate the body cavity to vitals. One or two of the 9mm barely did. They came and fond my friend whom I had set up with 180 gr. FNGC for his "little" S&W 686 4". They were running about 1350 fps and hammered those 250 lb, little piggies. In and out! Who needs expansion when you have a .30 cal meplat!

The 1911 is completely tune-able to any safe powder level by the guys at Sprinco. Their full length guide rod has a spring buffer built into the rod and can be made for and bullet weight at any speed calculation. Kase turned me on to them when he built me 45 Detonics. And I have used them on my 45 supers. Both government and Commander. The have systems for other autos as well but are not as tune-able. They not only protect the frame but key to reliable function.

Plus the open ended spring plug is like a cookie cutter on my thumb. I have to have a stick or something to poke the plug in, to turn the bushing and release the tension. But it feels like a 30# spring!

They came out when the 10mm was still new and they over built them thinking they would need the extra weight for the slide and the springs. I re-worked mine and it functions perfectly now with the 10mm. The gun is a good one, just needs a bit of refining. Just a bit lewd, crude and socially unacceptable, sorta like Alcorn.
