still kicking my self over that one.

I missed a Colt Python, 6" blue with box in .41 Magnum and so marked with the correct Colt Script on the barrel ".41 Magnum". It was a 6-shot. Of course several guys were all buzzing about it and I had it in my hand and the money ($600 cash) to snatch it up. Everyone was talking about it being all faked and what. Sure, it was not factory, but I figured worth the money anyway. I think I read some custom smith made a few.

Either way it was super unique and well executed. I had some other pending project in need of funding so I finally passed. Even if I'd bought it I'd likely have traded it off by now. I usually take the money and run when I'm ahead and seldom look back. I've always made money, but could have made much more.

Always wanted a Colt Diamondback (baby Python). I know they made them in .22 LR but perhaps .22 WMR? Made lots of Official Police in .22 and some Trooper MKIII in .22 WMR. Just don't know about the WMR in a Diamondback. I've wanted one ever since the Steve McQueen movie where he was sporting a 2-1/2" .38, was it Bullitt?

prefer the DA trigger pull on Smith's and Rugers so the value isn't there for me on Colts. . .

Colts in general, excepting the SA and 1911 all have the most screwed up grip geometry there is! Just try buying grips for a 1920s .38! There are too many variations, all bad.

a Colt and I'd love an SAA. I STILL want a 45 Colt New Service, but I doubt I'd shoot it as well as an N Frame S & W

It sits way too deep in my hand and must be made for man hands twice the size of mine. A Tyler T-Grip is a miracle of simplicity and source of remedy for me. Like night and day.

years I had a good friend at Colt and he told me there were 4 of the 41 Mag Pythons and all but one were destroyed when they found the recoil of the 41 shook the Python loose. He said they kept one in their archives.

This was in the early 1980's I think. I think he made less than a dozen, replicated a factory effort perfectly, to the letter. Really quality work. Maybe Taffin heard of the event.

I agree the Python was too weak for the .41. The frame and forcing cone area are good enough for the .357 but the lockwork, and mainly at that level of hand tuning is way overtaxed for the pounding.

It was a cool footnote in my collecting I thought worth sharing.

All the other dealers were shying away from it but I was looking at if for what it was, an outstanding quality of work. The bluing, markings, barrel re-bore (?) were impeccable. All for only about a 20% mark up from what a used Python was running at the time.

Not many folks know about it, and I held one! Colt themselves did run some .41 Magnums and did away with them. They also made a couple .400 Colt Magnums. I had a chance to buy a single .400 Colt Magnum cartridge too, at a show, for about $50!
