I have had a couple of folks ask about the 480

Ruger Super Redhawk and if it can be rechambered to 475 Linebaugh. The cylinder is too short to do that and really you wouldn't be gaining much anyway. The 480 is loaded up very close to the 475 but just with a lighter weight bullet. Anything on this continent can be taken easily with the 480 and in the Super Redhawk with it's weight the recoil will be a lot less, plus it comes with the scope rings so it is pretty much the perfect hunting handgun and priced right, plus if you reload you can load the 480 up to almost duplicate the 475 but with lighter weight bullets. It is a win win situation.

Paco took a nice Gemsbok with the 480 in South Africa

really is all you need for 99% of our hunting. I wouldn't hesitate taking it to Africa.

Look at those sharp horns!

A guide at the Y-O told us of a Rancher who was killed by a Oryx in TX. He misjudged how far the buck could reach through a fence separating them by 6" and it cost him his life. Got him in the groin and he bled out. Not a thing anyone could have done.

I meant Gemsbok not Oryx, get the names mixed.

they are smart and are like trying to put a big bull elk down. I have a lot of respect for the Gemsbok. The Gemsbok is what most of my hunters go for first in Africa.

You can really beat yourself to death with a .475 LB. I put it just behind the .454 as for the worse to shoot wheelgun there is. Recoil is very snappy. I shot my hog at the first new HHC in TX with a Reeder .475 LB and 400 gr. bullet at 1150 fps. Easily duplicated in that Redhawk .480. I later switched to a 325 gr. at 1250 fps which was much more pleasant to shoot and still shot through anything you pointed it at.

The domestic .480 is a fantastic cartridge and much better in the real world. On the same trip Doug shot a hog in the eye at about 30 steps, in the dark! The load was a 355 gr. at 1250 fps. Again duplicate in a .480, which didn't exist back then.

Absolutely, my 475 LB loads are easily within

the 480 range and in fact in one of my 475 LB I shoot a 325gr 480 load at 1350fps and its easy to shoot! A fully stoked 475 is a beast to hang on to and not needed.

Amen! I loaded 6 475LB with 370gr wfngc at max
