Anyone (Sean H.?) ever pop a hog with a 500L 435g 950fps? I know the faster rounds have the balls but is 870 ftlbs enough? I'm pondering taking my 500L Redhawk on my next hog hunt. My 410GNR and 44mag Redhawks have already made the trip in the past and my 500L Redahwk is having abandonment issues. Thanks, Misfits.

Saw a Bison topple to a 500x1.4" in one shot...

A WFN 440 grn at 950 fps using Win231. I'm betting it'd go through a good sized hog.

plus 3 Yak, plus 3 African Watusi, and other large critters fall from one 210 grain 41 caliber bullet each. And most with witnesses.

ordered a mold to my design which was a gas checked 350 grain hard cast bullet. I had a Bison hunt at the Y.O. coming up and the mold hadn't come in yet and all Kelly had were some 300 grain plain base bullets. I grabbed a bunch of them and if I ran them past 950 they leaded up my barrel big time. So I took them on the hunt loaded up to about 875 or so, well under the 1000 fps that I knew would lead up my barrel.I ended up taking the Bison with that load and the bullet exited. I actually took 2 Bison with the 510 GNR and in each instance the bullet went completely thru..

Like Greg, when you built my Howdah 500 Linebaugh...

It was just too much fun. Don't want the pounding to haunt me in later life (if there is one) either.

I quickly discovered Titegroup was the answer. Now, I shoot the Hunters Supply 420 grn at 1000 fps with great accuracy and plenty of power. This powder works the same no matter where it's positioned in the case.

As Huey said that is plenty of power ........if

and above is too much fun for that application. Not as much as your beast 475L Maximum I'm sure, but too much fun for me for hogs.
