I have carried a Marlin .44 mag, Marlin 30-30 and a Guide Gun in a rifle scabbard beneath my left knee while horseback. There have been times when a rifle is a nice companion in the back country. Only once was I tempted to shoot off my horse with a rifle, it was due to a very annoying black bear that was not backing down. My horse is gun broke and won't dump me if I shoot off of him. Thank you for the writing, it is a good read. Time to ride....
