Reeder Custom Guns - the talk of brass below, I am having a hard time with

Starline brass. Colleen got me a large batch of 44 Special Starline brass and when I run it thru the Dillon at stage 2, where it bells the mouth and drops the powder charge I have to stand up and use 2 hands to get the belling funnel out of the case. I have actually worried that i would break some of the linkage on the Dillon. I have heard that 45 ACP and 45 long Colt brass is having the same problem. I have tumbled the brass, lubed it and still the same thing. Starline is getting like Brownells, getting too big too fast and not watching the small stuff.

I had a similar issue with 9mm on my Dillon I really hurt myself being stubborn and not going to toss out brass no matter what, Luckily I ran across a post of others having the same problem on their Dillons, the problem only existed on some new or SS tumbled brass not media tumbled, so after storing the 3000 SS tumbled used cases I had purchased for another year, I dumped some into corn medium and son of a gun they worked perfect, the minute dust left was just enough to stop the die from sticking, Before this fix I polished the expander helped a little, started lubing the die tip every other case or so, thought I had been scammed with bad brass

I broke one of the arms on a Dillon because of this issue. Dillon fixed it with no questions but it was caused by the .45 Colt brass.

I thought the was something wrong with the dies. Using remington brass has no issue. If I leave it as 44 mag no issue.

something on Starline's webpage about it? Like if it was a huge problem you could send them your die and they'd modify it? And maybe I just dreamt that idk...All I can think is that the case walls must be thicker than most?

Its stiffer, but not like its been worked too much. I havent had any crack. Maybe they werent annealed enough? I havent gone back to play with it as I have plenty of other brass that works fine.

One Square deal and 2 550's have not had a problem with any brass from 9mm-45 Colt.

Dillons were too long and had to go too far down in the case to do the case mouth expanding, and when the expander/funnel went that far down that caused it to stick in the case. I haven't tried any in another press but it sure sticks like glue in the Dillons.

Starline's remedy was to send the die to them and they would modify the expander/funnel so that doesn't happen. I have yet to do so but may be forced to. We shoot so many 44 Specials a week that I simply don't have time to do them on a single stage press or even in one of my turret presses.

the EPA mandated that any brass or copper water pipe, fitting, fixture, used in drinking water have a lower "Lead" content than was then allowed. We had a grace period to install what inventory we had at the time. Then a drop dead date, you could not install or sell it. It was a certain percentage drop in the manufacturing content.

The new "less-lead" brass is much harder to machine and prices have increased about 30%. Of course this is passed on to the consumer too.

I do not know if the Govt. dictates such content in non-food brass content. It's just some information.

.41 special, the walls were too thick. But my .41 GNRs brass making has been fine
