I know, this forum is mostly about handguns and I have my fair share of them. I also have a few rifles, what would the effective range of the .45-70 be, is a 200 yard gun, 300, more?? Considering selling either a .30-06 or a .270 and keeping the .45-70 in addition to whichever one I decide to keep. For what I hunt I am thinking keeping the .270 probably makes more sense. Would use the .45-70 for anything bigger than whitetail/mule deer. And then there's always the option of keeping everything. :):)

what to do

I would suggest you buy a middle of the road rifle say something in the .338 or .358, but strongly suggest you hang on to the other three, That way you could do a proper comparison, This way you don't make a mistake and sell off the wrong rifle....Your welcome!

Go to rifle.....

If I could only keep one, it be the 30-06. It is so versatile to load and get ammo for.

That old 45-70 can shoot a looooong way! I’ll kill about anything that needs killing too; esp on this continent. Myself, I’ve never seen the need to “thin the herd” though. The guns themselves are appreciating assets. I’ve given a few to the boys there and there though.

The effective range of the shooter is what matters..

We all have our likes and dislikes. But, the shooter matters more than the gun.
