Reeder Custom Guns - A New Bullet For the 480 Achilles

Bullet selection for the 480 Achilles has been limited. Two bullets! The original Bittner design or the Huffaker bullet that is a copy of the .476 Ely bullet.

Yesterday my friend John Killebrew sent me about 12 or 15 pounds of the bullet he designed. It is an improvement of the original bullet. The original had small grease grooves making the use of Lee Liquid Alox a "must". John designed the bullet with deeper grease grooves. He added a crimp groove in the heel, which is a real plus. Crimping is VERY critical with heel bullets. And he reduced the size of the meplat and made the nose more rounded. I can't wait to try some out. I think this may be the premier hunting bullet for the Achilles!

Doing things to guns that many would never conceive. Or maybe that's wishful thinking.

Maybe JT will do us a book like "Crazy Revolvers." Edited by Scott Boggs no doubt...

The subtle nose changes give some optimism for longer ranges and a little more grease is always good. I really like that crimp groove under there.

A Ruger RH with a .45 modded cyl. And a .480 tube screwed into it would be fun. Got to add a lanyard ring you know, fab a nice flap holster....

the fact that "soft" bulleted cowboy .45 Colt ammo still printed on a pie plate at combat ranges. I figure it might bump up just enough to give a little spin. Remember that .475" is the depth of the grooves, not the high ridges that likely touch a .452"+ bullet.

A .44-40 in a .45 Colt works enough to serve in a bad pinch. I did it accidentally off the bench testing and got about a 4-5" group at a measured 25 yds.

It was clean and tight, just waiting for someone up to the challenge. I've gone off on that tangent 3x in my life. Each time I come out learning so much and always with a smile.

I once shot some .38-40 SWC backwards in .41 Long Colt needing some .403" "heel" type bullets. It worked too! LOL I shot them single shot though.
