Reeder Custom Guns - Rifle question, just curious..

Is it worth it to step up to the Weatherby cabibers, in same calibers, .270 Win to .270 Weatherby. 7MM Rem Mag to 7mm Weatherby, .300 Win to .300 Weatherby, and so on. Only difference I seem to see is a bit more velocity, not to mention increased muzzle blast, more recoil and ammo that cost at least half again as much as standard rounds, usually much more. As I mentioned elsewhere I'm not sure the juice is worth the squeeze. Am I missing something here??

My favorite is the .270 and have shot it a lot over the past 40 years. Bought it at the shop in LA and Ed Weatherby picked out a beauty for me. The 7mm and 300 are nice but lots of powder burned and expensive. Really no advantage over 7mm rem or 300win mag for what I shoot now. The 270 however is just begging for a nice desert ram hunt in the future I hope!

told folks that his ammo was faster, more powerful and so on and they believed it. Weatherby guns and ammo are good, some of the best. But before you jump into one or more, check the actual velocities. The 7mm Rem. Mag will easily beat the 7mm Weatherby mag and several of his cartridges are not exactly what he bragged about. If velocity means anything to you, then check it out. But an elk or moose or a fat girl in Arkansas will not notice the difference. Plus you are paying considerably more for the ammo and really not getting anything more. But if you are like a lot of folks and wear a Rolex and drive a Porsche, and claim to be hung like a donkey, and you like braggin rights then jump on it. But if you just want a good magnum rifle then stay with the 300 Winchester magnum and 7mm Remington Magnum. You can't beat them.
