Contender frame stretch
Has anybody seen frame stretch on a G2? We hear about it on the original Contenders that were pushed hard, but those all seem to be older anecdotes. Makes me curious how the new SSK Contenders will hold up compared to the original and G2.
I'll treat my SSK-50 just as the original Contender...
Regardless of machining, steel used, etc it's still lacking the extra steel the G2 has.
I think they'll be great items to assemble some retro guns on, but not buying that they are stronger than the originals.
But, I shot 250 Savage, 300 Savage, 444 Marlin, 45-70 and all sorts of Huge Wildcats for 30 years on the old frames without a single issue.
I will hold my opinions for a while yet. We
are set up as a national distributor so I would like to play with one for a while first. They were supposed to get me a frame to use in Africa but the last time they called they had a small set back and would not have one ready for my hunt.
The G-2 is, in my humble opinion, the finest frame TC has ever come out with. I really don't see how the frame can stretch due to heavy loads. I have stretched 3 or 4 TC frames thru the years due to the test firing of hot loads when I was developing the various 405 based wildcats and others like the 9.3 X 74 and such. Even did a 5 gun series in 500 Nitro back when I was young and dumb. This was the 2 5/8" cartridge called the 500 Nitro Express which used a black powder cartridge.

I have stretched them so bad they wouldn't stay locked up and even a small cartridge like 357 Mag would cause the gun to pop open on firing. Double springs and heavier bolts didn't help at all. They were just toast.
