Do you need a special die to do inside

neck reaming? I have seen the kits for Automags etc. I have a reamer that I am trying to go from 0.397 to 0.402. It looks like it is going to work but hanging onto the brass to do it and control depth will be interesting.

Do it with your lathe

If you have a 5C collet chuck you may have to remove the collet each time to fit the rim of the cartridge, or feed it from the back of the chuck. Will save set up time with a 4 jaw, and be more accurate than a 3 jaw chuck. Make a depth stop if you dont already have one. A crude one with a C-clamp and a piece of angle iron will work. You probably know this already

I'll tinker with it. My tail-stock is not in good shape

The shims need some work. I am reminded of old safety class photos of country boys all wound up in combines....

Hope that made sense

the only one I have seen was for the original 44 Auto Mags.

It was a die and a reamer to ream out the inside of the top portion of the case so I could seat a 44 caliber bullet. The only other way I know would be to buy a chucking reamer of the size you need.

Inside neck ream die

Neck reamed a lot forming brass for wildcats over the years both inside and outside. The die for inside neck reaming is to give better alignment for consistent neck wall thickness. You can inside neck ream with a chucking reamer without the die but they usually follow the existing hole. Your neck wall thickness may not be as concentric. When doing cases in volume would mount a press to good shop drill press. Get alignment as perfect as possible and use drill press.
