Reeder Custom Guns - I had you make me a Hellcat about 3 years ago and now

I see Springfield has borrowed your series name. Everywhere I look there is an ad for the Springfield Hellcat. Oughta be a law against stealing a man's series name.

infringement law but you have to be able to prove you had the name first and to copyright or trademark something is quite expensive, plus you have to have a copyright lawyer on hand ready to sue someone. It is just a lot of hassle and expense. And yes it does bother me a bit when another gun company "borrows" one of my series names but there is not a lot I can do about it.

and after 6 months in court you might win, but it end up costing you $100,000 in lawyer and court costs. So even if you win, you lose.

From personal experience I found laws are fluid, and trend current or popular case law interpretation. The one with the most money wins, and keeps the lawyers employed. Even when a normal person wins, they've already lost, usually double.

Not only have you been screwed to get you into the arguments, but the system at $200+ per hour, court costs, etc. bend you over for a second round. Just because you ask for recompense of legal costs does not mean you actually get it in hand either. Are you going to kick the ball again when it does not happen? It has to stop sometime.

Women, cars, bikes, fighter jets, etc. When I post I just use Reeder Hellcat, Reeder Trail Gun, etc.

a new gun called the Hellcat and then a couple of years later a big company copies it. You tell me what other company had out a Hellcat before Reeder.

I put Reeder on posts to make sure the right person gets the credit.

As Gary said, you pick your battles.

Not much I can so about Springfield, but can and do give Gary credit for mine.

I have 27 Reeders and zero Springfields. Safe to say I'm on board.

years several of my series names have been "borrowed". But it isn't worth getting uptight about. There is a registry of trademarked names that I try to check and make sure I am not copying anyone else's series name but if they don't have it trademarked then there is no way I can know. And mine aren't trademarked either. Years ago Colt sent me a nasty letter about one of our series that used the name Frontier and threatened to sue me, so rather than fight them, I dropped it. H&R did the same about their Survivor shotgun as I was using the Survivor name on our Urban Survivor. I had never heard of their Survivor shotgun and thru the years I may have unintentionally copied some other company's series name but it wasn't intentional and it was never brought to my attention.

Nothing these days is truly original, whether it be a name, a caliber or a style of gun, so it simply isn't worth getting ticked off about it.

I was once sued. After 2+ years I won. A week before the final court ruling I wrote my own motion to the court asking the judge to rule AGAINST me as the fees and work loss we’re forcing me into bankruptcy. I was whipped and couldn’t fight anymore.

That lawsuit taught me that the legal process itself can be a hell of a hammer. Whether you are right or not doesn’t matter

Citizens are fooled into thinking laws are just, equal.

Plus "Hellcat" has been used for decades to describe.
