Contender not firing

It’s a easy open G1 frame. My first thought was it needed a new lug spring. Took it apart and it was very dirty in the lug/spring housing. Cleaned it up and it seemed better. Before cleaning it would not let the hammer all the way down, now it will but only if it’s unloaded. I noticed the extractor is jumping the rim and not letting it pick up the case upon extraction. Since I didn’t have a spring to replace that one, I’m still gonna replace it and I need an extractor lift spring. Where can these be purchased? It is a Reeder 257 Raptor barrel but I assume it takes the same spring and lifter as every other contender barrel. Forgot to mention it is a two piece lug.

has the barrel been fit to your frame? If not it will have

to be fit. There is no way around that. The way TC (S&W) is making the parts these days, all barrels have to be fit. Is this a new barrel? That barrel goes thru several people and is fired at least 3 times before it goes out the door. So if the extractor jumps over the rim, someone has played with it, maybe changing parts, or they removed the little flat spring used on all rimless cases. Also the hammer is not supposed to go all the way down except when the trigger is pulled. If it does, then again someone has monkeyed with it. You said it was a 2 piece lug. Did you mean a 2 piece bolt? The 2 piece bolts are all we have used for 15 years. Nobody uses the one piece bolts anymore. Anyway, if it is having all those problems, get the barrel and your frame to me so we can fit it and replace any missing or changed parts.

At TC (S&W) is so poor. One would think that with advances in CNC and machining they could be more consistent. I've had to send two of my G2 frames and one Encore in to Gary for barrel fitting.

unfortunately the old days of buying a TC
