I seldom mess with "modern" expanding bullets. I do waffle a bit on the .380. I'd rather focus on reliability of function and penetration. It's about like running an attacker through with a small rod but in the right spot highly effective. As mentioned the little FMJ's are prone to tumble and bounce around some too, depending on many factors. No doubt due in part to the round noses, ditto on African calibers that are prone to pitch and rivet. It needs to be longer than wide.

As he said, a teeny back up is way better than mean words. My personal favorite is the Astra Firecat M200. It is basically a re-thought Colt design. Sort of like the Star PD .45. Not a copy but some guys totally re-thought it. It's tiny, reliable and has three safety's so you don't shoot yourself in a tender place with it in your pocket ready to go. A striker fired, with manual safety, grip safety, and mag disconnect. No sights, just a groove, but I can hit a plate a 25 yds with it! I need to start carrying dual myself. I hardly notice it.
