Your thoughts on the 22 WRM

Hello All:

You can say what you want but I have a great fondness for the 22 WRM.

I do recall my late father having a dislike for it. I believe he quoted Elmer Keith as it is neither fish nor fowl or something to that effect. He did not see a good use for it as far as hunting small game or the like.

I politely disagreed with Dad on some things and this is one. I love that little round. A while back I bought a TC Super 14 barrel at a gun show and never looked back. With an old 2-6 Redfield scope I was knocking prairie dogs aplomb on my summer excursions. Tons of fun and when I did some testing over a chronograph the numbers were very close to what was registered from test rifles.

The question of larger varmints and the 22 WRM always comes up. I have yet to take a larger varmint such as a fox, bobcat or coyote but I do believe with good shot placement it is very feasible. I know here in Southern New England you aren't going to get those long distance shots for the most part.

Today I plan to go out and about for the morning and later a sit down with the varmint caller is in order with my 22 WRM Contender in my hands. We'll see what happens.
