Reeder Custom Guns - Whats your favorite cartridge for coyote to medium

Size deer? Gnr or standard , looking at 250 Gnr and 256 Gnr. They look like they would be almost perfect in a contender. What would the best barrel length be for those 2?

FA`s 41 but have Taurus revolvers in 218 Bee and 22 Hornet that I have to find an accurate handload for. I also have a Dan Wesson with 8" barrel in 32 Mag that needs more range time and feel these may be good small game rounds...

I say it's on the .30-30 as you cannot blow out .25-35 without splitting the neck, ditto on the Ackley versions of the .25-35. It's always given a bit of issue. Just one pass of a .30-30 in a .256 Falcon die necks to .257". It looks odd and has two shoulders but headspaces on the rim first shot to blow out.

It provides a huge increase in powder capacity. I like a 13" barrel for a G2 chassis and it provides basically .257 Roberts ballistics in a handy hunting package. Medium powders work best like H332. A great parent case with a lovely rim. I also have the 7mm GNR which may seem a little too big for a varmint round but it's not, and has even more versatility for larger critters. Ditto the .30 GNR, a boon if you like to shoot cast bullets.

If you prefer a .243 there are other options too. I have the .240 Raptor on the .204 Ruger case which is really efficient with a more varmint slant, but can do deer fine too. Just like the other 6mm's.

It's so addictive. Just jump in anywhere.

And amazingly accurate. I have 3 of them. XP100, Encore carbine, and a G2 pistol. All are tack drivers. Have one shot kill on squirrels, hogs, and one cow elk; All over 100+ yards. The Cartridge kills way beyond what it looks paper. Also the 256 Falcon is a great choice. I have 3 or 4 of them too. Hard to go wrong with either one and I can’t pick a favorite of the two. My $ .02

The .250 on the .32 H&R and the .256 on the .357 Max. case. Those would do well on shorter barrels such as 9-10". They are very efficient obviously.

I get a bit overzealous sometimes. The .255 Banshee is the same capacity as the .250 and I have a 10" in .255. Only 10-12 grs. powder can zip it along pretty well. The .240 Banshee on the Hornet picked up some speed too. I see them as too small for bigger than Coyote myself. It would kill a small whitetail as would the .22 LR and WMR.

100 yd. group, 80 gr. FPGC running around 2000 fps. It's sort of a resto-mod custom.

smaller bodied deer but no bigger. The 256 GNR would be sort of a 250 GNR Magnum. The more powerful of the two. If you have larger deer in your area go with the 7 GNR or 30 GNR. For longer range coyote the Raptors would be good ones. At the Y.O. Ranch several of my guys took whitetail deer with either the 240 Raptor or 257 Raptor out to 200 yards or so. And most with one shot. I took a buck and 4 does with my 257 Raptor and all one shot kills. Three of them were at the 175 to 200 yard range. For any of these barrel lengths of 12" would be perfect.

I’ve shot quite a few coyotes with my 257 Raptor, and it works great, but for deer around here I prefer the 256 Falcon.
