475 Linebaugh with 470 Gnr Cylinder or
501 Gnr with 50 Ae cylinder.

The 475 Linebuagh and 470 GNR is a little easier to load than the 50AE .
I prefer Gary's Bisley Gunfighter grip frame and 5.5" to 6.5" barrel.

500 S&W. Shoot 500 Special in it also. Add a 501GNR cyl. if you want a dual cyl. gun.

Given the proposal; the more readily available .475 cal. Components sway my choice also. I have always seen the .475 LB / .500 LB a rehashed .44 / .45 argument. It really does not matter. Whatever floats your boat.

Some level of practicality eventually comes into play. I’d rather be shooting than searching for suitable components on the net. But I could happily manage with either.

I’ve got about everything I could want. BUT if I were to build another it would be a 8” Octagon SA Bisley in .475 LB. Drilled and tapped just in case I decided to go globe trotting.

Components are more common and available in wider selection than the .510. Just my 2 centavos.

I had no intentions whatsoever of considering any jacketed projectiles for its use, period. Then on the AK adventure the guide “requested” no cast bullets for primary handgun hunting uses! Pooh! Seems he had a simple bad experience and lost game. He’s a knowledgeable hunter and firearms enthusiast, I didn’t like it much but respected his position. Not that big of a deal actually! Barnes still makes a 300 gr. JSP for the .50-95 WCF Express, .510 cal. And it worked fantastic. I could scream it out of a 6” revolver over 1600 fps! That overshot my sight heights so I backed it down to 1300-1350 fps. I found others too that make custom jacketed bullets for about anything you’d want. HAWK is another specialty outfit using pure copper and lead materials. They are a bit gummy but golly do they hold together and expand! With goals and some ingenuity about anything is possible these days. It’s just a matter if you wish to expend that much energy in persuit.

off after being hit in the vitals with the heavy hard cast bullets. Two of those animals were mine and one of my other guys. My bear hit at kissing distance rolled and ran off after i hit him again and again at kissing distance. This was with my 510 GNR and ammo loaded by the owner of Cartridge Performance Engineering. It was 435 grain hard cast gas checked bullets and the bear ran off after being hit twice at close range and I had to go in the alders after him. The next day another of my guys hit a big bear just behind the shoulder and in slow motion video we could see the bullet hit him just behind the shoulder and go all the way thru and hit the water behind him. He ran off and we never found him. George said he had had several incidents like that with the heavy lead bullets. His theory was the bullet is pushing a column of air thru the animal pushing the vitals aside and not doing a lot of internal damage. So after that he banned any of the heavy hard cast lead bullets from being used in his camp.
