Ruger started numerical enumeration at the onset of making the bearcat in 1958. In 1959 they started an alphanumeric system (A0001), etc. In March of 1960 they went back to numeric starting with serial number 2000. Mine is 2421.
In 1969 and the B.S. gun control act they had to go to a double serial number. The first number recognizes the model, in this case 90- is a bearcat. Many bearcats are collectable for lots of reasons like double serial numbers or proof marks or variations in front sight height from the standard model.
