BASICALLY COLT SAA SIZE; REGULAR BLACKHAWKS ARE SUPER BLACKHAWK SIZE.
So, what would be the top end for a mid frame?

cartridge the length of the 357, 41 or 44 mag would be ok but you would be very limited on what bullets you can use.
In the pics the stainless cylinder is the Super Blackhawk size while the blued cylinder is the mid frame size.

In the pics with the bullet noses showing a standard lightweight bullet in 45 Long Colt the bullet is fairly close to the end of the stainless cylinder while a 250 grain bullet comes almost to the end of the cylinder.

In the mid frame a standard fairly long nose 158 grain bullet in 357 mag comes all the way to the end, so some bullets wouldn't work at all.

for a 401 GNR setup? 10mm bullets aren’t terribly long, maybe the 230 grain.
extra cylinders are no problem but we don't do

any interchangeable barrels. Now if you are talking about changing a 44 Special into a 10mm/401, then that is no problem.
none of the longer cartridges would work,

like the 410 GNR, 429 GNR, 455 GNR, 454 Casull and so on.And for sure none of the large calibers like the 510 GNR, 500 GNR, 475 Linebaugh, 500 Linebaugh and so on. Way too big.
So 44-40 on a large frame, SB or BH.

As JT pointed out, these guns are Colt sized. I'll keep loads for my 5-Shot at or under 30,000 psi.
In a 6-Shot, I would stay under 45 ACP pressures. These guns available in 45 ACP and cylinder thickness would be similar.
Cool, I want one to go with my old Marlin.
