a booth at the Safari Club show in Vegas. We were next to Holland and Holland. I talked to them quite a bit thru the week we were there. At that time the salesman told me their starting double rifle was $91,000 and 5 year wait. I watched them take several orders. Two buddies each ordered guns in the $200,000 range for their top end 700 Nitro. The salesman said they had only built a handful of the 700s and about that many 600s.
One day at the start of the show they took in a really nice Jeffery's and Sons 450/400 as a deposit toward a new double rifle. The gun was one of their guns intended for the South American trade. The salesman just closed the case and slid it under the table. It sat there for the whole week. Finally I couldn't stand it any longer and asked him what they were going to do with it. He said the Jeffery's and Sons rifles weren't up to their standards so they would wholesale it off. I asked him what was wholesale on the rifle. He said $8000 to $10,000. He had me hooked. I wrote him a deposit check and sent the rest after we got home. I never took it to Africa as I planned as I was afraid the baggage guys would damage it. Plus I was a handgunner, not a rifle guy.I eventually sold it and made a few bucks off it. I really liked that gun but I couldn't see hanging on to it if I wasn't going to use it.
