I bought this polished gripframe from Gary a couple years back. It cut 7.5 oz off the weight of this fine little Ruger. The gun came with a .0025" barrel gap. I slicked up the action and put in Wolff Springs. Polished the small parts and added a #5 Keith Style Base Pin.

One point yet to be addressed is weight and balance,

respecting to caliber. That .45 Colt weighs in at 36 oz. but a .357 is a whole bunch heaver by percentage (15-20%?). It changes the balance and overall feel too. Those big empty holes bored in the steel.
I find a .357 with a short barrel feels a bit chunky, sort of clubby. The other calibers proportionately different in each direction. A .32 gets pretty hefty. I have a .25 cal. all steel Bisley with long barrel that is almost 3.5 lbs! I commissioned it, an 8-shot to boot, upon arrival and my first grasp I thought wow! I had not considered that at all. It is a real handful. Holds as steady as a rock and is a real joy to shoot but I did not consider a weight difference of some 10 oz. between it and a .45. Basically it is a solid chunk of steel with little bitty holes drilled in it, removing very little weight.
Not complaining, but it makes it interesting and I really notice things like that. It's hardly ever mentioned though.

You have the talent and experience to do gun smithing on single action guns. And a good job at that. Pete
Aluminum grip frame looks so good in a SS receiver.

7 oz less that’s a lot does it make it feel nose heavy
Not at all...As WB pointed out, it's a 45 Caliber..

So, the gun is fairly light to start with. It compares favorably with my FA97 45 Colt for easy packing.
Accepts slightly longer rounds, 20% more fire power and cost a whole lot less.
It's kinda fun to watch the trends...

A bunch of like minded sixgunners wanted on all steel, 44 Spl FOR YEARS ... Now we are looking for aluminum to put on it, full circle... I think weight gets overdone a bit... The BALANCE point is the key for me, not overall weight...I like the full weight and the beauty of all blued steel and the 44spl in the 5.5" setup seems like the Sixguns of the decade for Ruger.
If you are cutting Sixguns weight for practical reasons i bet I can find an extra few pounds elsewhere... Usually on their respective arse.
I think I also recall some differences to note in the Bisly due to the frame ears needs ground down on those too.
