I can say the flutes do help! Grease Is involved with the loading and firing making the non-fluted cylinders very slick. The Colt engraved scenes do not provide much grip. The solid frame Remington is worse. At least the old Colt designs you could crack apart. Just a footnote on firing the old guns to the point of forced maintenance.
