Has anyone on the forum used a Punch bullet on game? If so, how do they compare in performance vs. hard cast?

I have used them with a 10" contender

.357 maximum. Did the job on a young 6 point buck. Makes no difference until you start running them HC real fast. They can fragment when it hits to hard. Just my experience.

I used hard cast 540gr at 1500 on a large cape buffalo in SA

off side. Other than a little peening, you could have reloaded it and shot it again.

I’ve used 3 punch bullets but have never recovered one

Due to complete pass thru’s and gone. 2 bears, one huge hog, at 1450 FPS out of a .454. Many more 300gn WFN gas checked bullets, mostly hogs, 20 more + again full pass thru’s. The extreme wound channel and exit hole really puts animals down quickly.

from the Punch, hard cast, or both?

The wide flat meplat creates a wound channel that turns

Here’s some alternates also these are all .454 loads
300GN GC Hard Cast
300GN Solid Copper Lehigh Defense
300GN Sierra Soft Point, which isn’t all that soft. It holds together really well, and I find Sierra bullets to be extremely accurate. I have used these in .45Colt and .454 on more critters than any other Bullet.
