Gary, didn't you build a custom or converted old army in 45 or 50 caliber. What name was it listed under.

I'm not Gary but

reasons. First off I couldn't get any internals from Ruger anymore. Secondly, black powder is illegal in this county, so if I want to test fire the gun, I have to first come up with some black powder which I can't have in this shop by law, then if I want to test fire it I have to drive 2 hours down south to shoot it. So it just wasn't worth the hassle. I think we built maybe a dozen in total.

May I ask why real black powder is illegal in

your county ? I am curious? I know in Massachusetts you can get it but due to the storage issues only two shops off the top of my head carry it.

Where can I acquire the Remington model cap and ball.

The Remington model 1860 is able to switch out cylinders more readily than others. Nice to have a second cylinder ready on your belt when out hunting. Any ideas are appreciated.

I’d not want to drop a loaded cylinder on

Concrete or a rock! The wonder wads preclude the need for messy lubes around the ball for sealing out crossover sparks and chain fires. FWIW.

I think it’s the fire hazard in GNR’s high country.

They make fantastic “powder pellets” for pistols too that really make things fun. I even shot some I .45 Colt metallic cases. Made them nasty but the BP boom and fire! Toy can buy them at Wal-mart around here. Right out in the open, not behind the counter even.

Basically the C&B is an in-line muzzle loader.

yep, WB is right. it has to do with forest fire

it has been illegal here in this county for years. We have

been here for 26 years and it was illegal when we moved here. Flagstaff sits in the middle of about 8 million acres of Ponderosa pine trees and they are worried about the forest fire dangers.

Thanks Gary

Here in NH I have no problem in getting or shooting Black Powder. I have several BP guns and soot them all the time. I have and was hoping to have you build me a 50 cal on my Ruger Old Action Army pistol.

Thanks for what you do.

Is there another Smith that can put an 11 inch barrel on one of mine so I can deer hunt with it legally in Arkansas. I have three and mine all shoot great.

the barrel itself is usually no problem. The

problem is that underlug bracket that holds the ball rammer down. That had to be welded onto the bottom of the barrel and has to be exactly the right dimension and size. With that and adding a front sight to it and refinishing it, you end up spending about what you would for a new gun. I don't know anyone that is not over a year behind that would tackle the job.
