I've always wanted one of these .22 WMR

A 9-shot WMR High Standard Sentinel. I figure they have the classic two-finger to fire DA mode but usually SA is fine. Interesting pawl gear and usually good shooters. Who would not enjoy a 9-shot .22 Mag. trail gun. But usually they are higher than a cat's back, $$$. Most chain discount stores carried the line from the 50's on. They were not expensive back then.
I like both the 4" with adjustable sights (handsome gun)and the snubbie fixed sights. Back in the 50's they also made these different colored guns like modern Charter Arms. Not much new today.
This pic is a .22 LR but the same thing was done in WMR.

Why pay $700 for a S&W when they have this for 50%, and it holds more rounds?

SIMPLY BECAUSE THE S&W SHOOTS BETTER

to one for about $400. I just can't see why they are so durn expensive. Even a .357 version is cheaper than the .22 WMR. Most new 351PD's go for about the same as a nice used N-frame!
High Standard also made some great shooting 22 rifles

under the J.C. Higgins banner for sale at Sears. Even today if you can find one they are running $400 or better for a nice one.
Yeah, JC Higgins (Sears) were either Marlin, Stevens, or HS.

The Westernfield (Western Auto) line was mostly Mossberg made and a few Stevens.
The HS made semi-auto shotguns and pumps were well made as were the Mossberg made pumps marked Westernfield.
HS made (Higgins)a bolt action, tube feed shotgun that I absolutely love. You open the bolt and feed it through the bottom like a pump into the tube. It holds 6 or 7 if I remember. Been looking for a 20 ga. version to buy. Real walnut stocks. The Mossberg bolt shotguns had a tinny 2-shot clip that was not to hot.
my first shotgun was a J.C. Higgins bolt action 20 gauge

made by either Mossberg or Marlin. It is long gone now and at the time I had no idea who made the gun.
I eventually switched to my Dad's Sears semi auto made by High Standard.

My first real revolver I bought when I was 19 or so (back then you could buy a handgun if you were 18, no paperwork required). It was a High Standard Double 9, 9" barrel and 9 shot 22 LR. My hunting guns were all High Standard.
The 22 rifles were the model 29 or 30 J.C. Higgins made by High Standard.

later on I started using my Dad's J.C. Higgins semi auto made by High Standard. Dove hunting in 1965.

I can't figure a .38 is $500 and .22 WMR, same gun is $800?!

And that POS plastic and CNC Ruger LCR in .22 WMR is $500 too! Not for me. Supply and demand I guess.

every few days. He bitches and moans about every new gun these days. Everything was better in the 1960s and was cheaper too. The new stuff is no good, made out of plastic, costs too much and so on. He has actually run a few customers off by all his constant whining and bitching. Scotty, you are exactly like that man. I really feel sorry for your wife, if you bitch and whine about everything at home too. You are a good friend Scotty but you need to go back a few weeks or months and read all your posts. You are turning into that miserly old man more and more every day.
they are not the same gun. There is a lot more work

in building a rimfire than a standard centerfire. Plus 38 specials are everywhere whereas the double action 22 Magnum revolvers are few and far between. And again you are sounding just like the old man that comes in the shop and bitches about everything. The Ruger LCR in 22 mag is an excellent revolver, made as well if not better than the S&W. Didn't your Mama tell you not to bad mouth something until you have tried it?
are you a manufacturer too like Reeder?

The S&W 360 and the S&W 351PD are the exact same gun except one has a rim fire frame mounted firing pin and the other has a center fire frame mounted firing pin. Both are Scadinum J-frames with shrouded barrels. The 360 has cheap rubber grips and is chambered for .38 Spec. +P if you are bad enough to handle it. It sells for under $500 in most retailers. The .351PD is a 7-shot WMR and boasts wood grips and a fiber optic front sight as premium features over the 360 .38. It actually flies off the dealer shelves for $750-800 and even higher than suggested retail! I don’t understand why, nor why suggested is so much higher?
I installed a fiber green front on the 360 and ordered custom wood grips. This formed a hybrid model that S&W never offered, a “361PD” I would figure. It was fun and economical. Oh my but did it sting in terrible recoil! It was my folly installing those pretty wood grips. On the sissy .22 WMR it didn’t matter, on the .38 no matter what I shot, the 13 oz. gun was just painful. In contrast I have a 16 oz. 40 S&W with twice the kinetic energy that is ok. So I sold it. Kept the grips for an all steel gun.
I am not cheap, but I do demand fair value. If a green truck is $5000 and a red truck basically the same is $8000 I can clearly see they are trying to screw me. Shame on them, I’ll take my business elsewhere. I’ll just decide not to want the red truck, maybe go buy a blue one! Lol
I dont see why the 22wmr is more either Scotty

model 17 but all I see are the heavy underlug version. I like the older barrel style better. If memory serves the long barrel was dropped somewhere in the early 90s, I think. I have a model 48 with a scope on it but also want the 17.
