500 linebaugh brass says it uses large rifle primers. If folks are cutting down the brass to make 510 gnr ( large pistol primer) can Gary’s loading manual loads still be used?

the old original loadings were using cut down rifle brass

and the rifle brass normally uses rifle primers. Since the 500 Linebaugh was registered with SAAMI it uses large pistol primers. Also if you have one of our 500 Linebaugh and the gun has an action job, be sure and use large pistol magnum primers. Rifle primers are harder than pistol primers and a lighter hammer strike could cause misfires. A rifle's firing pin is usually around 6 to 8" long with a long heavy duty spring, whereas a revolver has a lightweight firing pin and a little hammer spring that quite often won't set off a rifle primer.

Thank you !

I'm using Starline brass in my Reeder 500 Linebaugh, which require Large Rifle Primers. My load for this years Africa trip is 31.5 grains of H-110, 400 grain WFN and CCI Large Rifle Magnum primers. It is on the lower end of the full power spectrum, but gives all the recoil I want and the cases fall out of the chambers. In over 300 rounds of practice I've yet to have an ignition problem. I was worried about the harder primer cups, but so far, it hasn't been an issue. I have no idea what the velocity is, but I know it's enough!

when is your Africa hunt?

I'm going with you! We'll have to keep our fingers crossed that we get it out this year. I'm optimistic that we'll have a great hunt sometime late summer/early fall. Also, did you get my Delta Elite for rehab?
