Found an unexpected hunting partner...

So,.. working from home has never been a problem for me. Especially when I can shoot some squirrels. I have my desk by the window and keep an eye out for tree rats. I keep the old trusty Crossman pump handy and pop one every now and again. But last week I stepped out to shoot one and noticed that the squirrel I was after had gone. Then I saw my old yard cat "Pico" stalking in the bullisons and the pine straw. She made a short leap and the squirrel she wanted moved to the other side of the tree, now with its back to me. So I popped it. We've killed three like this. I know she's an unwitting partner, but its fun none the less. She doesn't care who killed. She bats the carcass around and walks circles around me like we're best buddies. We keep this up,.. I might turn into a cat person.

But,.. if I can get her to start blood tracking, I'll have something.

She catches stuff like mice shrews and squirrels and chews the head off on the front door mat for me to step on going out to drink coffee or going to work. It is a terrible feeling between your toes to step on a chewed up cold shrew and can't see nothing. Spill my coffee every time on my way to the porch swing.

It'll last as long as she's interested.

She and another cat hunt together. One will sit in a tree and wait and the other will chase a squirrel through the tree on a path where the squirrel will jump to another tree. The first cat is waiting for the squirrel and it will knock the squirrel out the tree. Its wild to watch.

Yea, she'll bring up little snakes she's killed too. One time it was a bird. The wife got pretty grossed out over that.

Yea, and thats why there are 50 million fewer songbirds too.

That's also why there are a lot fewer rabbits around as well. Cats kill millions of songbirds each year. If I see one outside someones yard it won't make it home. Be a responsible feline owner and the cat gets to live.

Be a good neighbor ...

And you won't have to worry about the pets that leave your own yard getting back home.

I try to be a good neighbor just the same. I just hate roaming cats. They are killers of anything up to their size, but Im particular to the killing of songbirds. They are a mainstay to nature..the forests and fields are silenced without them. I will always favor the songbird over the cat.

I'm with ya Woody!

I like cats, have had several over the years, a couple really special ones too! Yet it has always amazed me at the inaction re. cats who get away with killing all sorts of animals! Worst of all I've know more than a handful of folks over the years who've asked neighbors to contain their roaming animals to no avail whatsoever. One case was tragic. Man had spent over $500 securing his yard so he could bring his prized birds out for sun & fresh air while he sat out with them. Emergency run to the hospital as wife had an aneurysm. Didn't make it. Got home after all that & his favorite bird, minding its own business in its cage, was also dead. He lost it & almost went on a cat-shooting-spree with his .22. Luckily he called me & I talked him into driving out into the country for a visit. Got him down off the edge, lent him my ancient & beloved FWB124, both tuned & silenced. Explained bodies had to vanish & that loose lips sink ships. Added whenever it came up, blame coyotes & lynx. After a few months cat owners started keeping their marauders in...

I'd get confused ...
